VirtualC64



VirtualC64 V4.0: It has been a while since the last version of VirtualC64 was released and there have been no updates since then. But as of today VirtualC64 4.0 is finally ready to go. Pleases note that this and later releases are distributed exclusively via GitHub.

VirtualC64 does not yet reach the awesome compatibility of the classical emulators such as Hoxs64, Vice, or Frodo. However, plenty of games are already running and the list of compatible applications grows with every new release. Right now, VirtualC64 supports the following file formats: D64, T64, PRG, P00. L'équivalent de Mameinfo.dat pour la partie MESS de MAME semblait abandonné depuis près d'un an. Mais il a finalement été repris et ses données sont maintenant davantage à jour même si certaines informations sont encore manquantes:

Ce build de MAME dépourvu des machines d'arcade a lui aussi été mis à jour. Voici les améliorations spécifiques (valables également pour MAMEUI):
- Lua initialisation errors are treated as warnings rather than fatal
- NES: do not crash if unknown UNIF PCB found.
- NewUI: do not crash if a cartridge that supports an extra slot gets removed
- MESSUI, MAMEUI: you can right-click on a game and choose 'Delete game settings' to remove a game's INI,CFG,STA and NVRAM files.

Ce frontend multi-systèmes a été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:

I'm starting to use TNT Unicode Components Pack in the frontend. I should have done this a long time ago. Added TntRichEdit control so Unicode texts can be displayed in Game Docs panel and in message boxes. You might need a richedit20.dll file so non-English texts can be properly displayed. I tested the frontend with the file supplied by Windows 10 and the results are awful. You can do the same test on your system, try renaming the DLL and restart the frontend. If English / non-English mixed texts are good, you don't need this DLL.
For this build, and this build alone, such DLL file is supplied with the binary packages. Future releases will have a separate download link. Why ? You might already have a DLL in your system that produces good English / non-English mixed texts (usually when Microsoft Office is installed).
File is from the discontinued Microsoft Word Viewer. I tested 4 different DLL files and they all produce different results. Why, Microsoft.. WHY??!!!
I rewrote the parsing function of MAME dat files and now Game Docs feature is now lightning fast!
Other tweaks were made, and history (xml or dat) now shows texts correctly. In fact, history.xml is now the preferred file.
New 4K Mode (2160p). But why ? If you're like me, have a 4K monitor and use screen DPI scale at 100%, everything looks tiny, and so does the frontend.
By enabling this setting, you will get resized dialogs with bigger fonts, bigger buttons and other enlarged stuff. I haven't tested this feature with DPI scale other than 100%..
This is my personal dream come true feature ever since I got a 4K monitor back in 2017. A font sized 16 looks so much better compared to size 9!
Warning: Do not attempt to enable this setting if your screen resolution is lower than 3840x2160, the frontend does not validate Windows resolution.
More tweaks to message boxes, better font colors and texts. Several message boxes were also updated with night mode colors. They can display Unicode texts too (see command line texts). The Run Game Confirmation Dialog in the new 4K mode looks awesome.
I've made some modifications to the TNT Unicode Components Pack so, if you already have it installed in your Delphi compiler, you must install my modified pack or some frontend features will not work, and Delphi will give compilation errors. I couldn't find a way to create new 'extra' controls to keep the library with unaltered code.

- Command line texts in 'Run Game Confirmation Dialog' now show a 'run>' tag prefix
*it's a cosmetic feature and to look cute
*but it also fixes a weird 'auto-font' bug from 'RichEdit20W' class, depending on the .dll you're using (blaim our dear Microsoft for that!)
- function uCommon.CallShellExecute() updated to support UTF-16 WideString URLs; using ShellExecuteW() WinAPI
- Rewrite/optimization of functions to parse game docs dat files (mameinfo, history)
*game entry detection from 'history.xml' is now blazing fast.. no more 2 seconds lag when selecting games with 'Game Docs' feature enabled
('history.xml' is now the preferred file and should be used instead of 'history.dat')
- Text and text color tweaks to 'Run Game Configuration Dialog' feature (on/off in main menu)

That annoying white box bug between horizontal/vertical scrollbars in night mode is gone. Turned out it was caused by EasyListView, not by Win10.
Using mulitiple paths for MAMu_ icons (zipped / unzipped) was not working, the frontend could not find the .ico files (MAME only).
The frontend was using RichEdit v1.0 (richedit32.dll), causing problems and crashes with Game Docs feature (mameinfo, history, etc..). I updated Delphi 7's TCustomRichEdit class to v2.0 (richedit20.dll) and made other minor changes.
Still no support for multi-language Unicode text (Delphi 7 limitation).
URL links were not working in history.xml / history.dat. I missed the URL format change made to this file.
And I thought this project was solid, with some 'minor' issues left to fix..

- Nasty bug causing the frontend to not find .ico files and icon.zip if you have multiple icon folders set in MAME's 'ui.ini' file

- Executable names drop the '64' suffix.
- The hack that saved slider values on exit has been removed. This is because the slider code was refactored and the result was not compatible with the hack.
- Fixed a problem with the pluginspath which could cause plugin errors in certain circumstances.
- Fixed a problem where category files could not be found in certain win10 setups (MESS only)

Une nouvelle version de ce frontend a été publiée. Voici la liste des changements:
Added support for history.xml format (MAME v0.228 and newer). The old history.dat is still supported, even for newer MAME builds. If you create a XML file for an older MAME version, it will work too. :)

Per category 'no image found' feature is back. You can have an different .png file for each of the 17 image categories (in-game snaps, titles, cabinets, flyers, etc..)
Files are to be placed in a new resourcesimagesimg_missing folder and be in .png format. Since MAMu_, a.k.a. the icons master, already made images for no flyer and no marquee (years ago), they are included with the frontend as an example. You are welcome to create your own images set and share in Emu Loader's forum.
If one or more files are not found, emuloader.png will be used instead (as it was before).

There are other minor stuff, mainly bug fixes and more tweaking. Night mode's setting Use Windows 10 Dark Scroll Bar in Games List is enabled by default, and it might not be necessary anymore since this Win10 internal API code hack is working quite well (future setting removal ?). Ce gestionnaire de ROMs a été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- Somewhere in the last few releases a bug crept in causing zipped file to not be fixed if only the case of the rom name in the DAT set was changed. This has now been fixed in release 3.2.2
- After you install this version you should 'Shift/Right Click' on the Update DATs button to fully reload your DATs, doing this will make RV find any incorrectly cased zip files. If RV finds any you can then 'Find Fixes' & 'Fix ROMs' to correct these Zip Files.

Une nouvelle beta a été publiée pour cet émulateur Amiga qu'on ne présente plus. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- Hard reset leaked indirect mode allocated memory banks (outside of JIT compatible address range), for example Z3 RAM outside of partially outside of first ~2G of address space.
- GUI misc list powerled dims option never worked, option was always cleared. (Only manual config file editing worked)
- fi debugger command now accepts assembly syntax (for example 'fi trap #0'). Only max first 3 words (if it is longer than 3 words) are used in breakpoint condition.
- CPU% OSD leading zero removed.
- 'Blacker than black' display panel option did nothing in non-AGA modes.
- 68060 unimplemented integer instruction mode + unimplemented instruction with -(A7)/(A7)+ addressing mode in user mode: exception stack frame was created first, then -(A7)/(A7)+ modification was incorrectly restored using supervisor stack pointer.
- 68040/060 unimplemented FPU instructions also update FPIAR. Some invalid instructions don't but this seems to be undefined behavior. 6888x only update FPIAR if FPU exception(s) are enabled.
- 68040/060 unimplemented FPU mode arithmetic exception fixes, all 68060 FPSP test package tests now pass. (and when run using 68040 or 6888x: test errors will match real hardware 100%)
- Fixed FMOVEM.L #xxx, disassembly.
- Windowed mode status bar height is correctly calculated when window is moved to different DPI monitor.
- Removed ROM scan expansion device result list. It is out of date and code was almost unmaintainable.
- Hopefully last blitter update related fix, copper blitter waits should work correcly again. (This is a hack. Copper emulation also needs an update.)

Une nouvelle mise à jour a été publiée pour cet émulateur Commodore 64 pour MacOS. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- When a window was closed, the underlying emulator instance did not terminate correctly (#624).
- The game pad handler has been replaced by the one in vAmiga. This fixes several issues related to joystick emulation (#623).
- The emulator no longer supports the control key as joystick emulation key (#623).
- Virtual keys on MBPs with a Touch Bar are working again.
- The selected mouse model is saved in the user default storage now.

Cet émulateur ColecoVision a été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- makes VDP compute 5th sprite status even if the screen is not being drawn. I have also added the 'Hardware | Paste Clipboard' option to ColEm-Windows, when running in Coleco Adam mode. This option allows pasting Windows clipboard contents directly into Adam software.

Deux nouvelles versions ont été publiées consécutivement pour cet émulateur Commodore 64. Les améliorations sont les suviantes:
v4.0b3:
- Auto-warp mode was broken in v4.0b2.
- SID sample stream overflows do no longer crash the emulator.
v4.0b2:
- Fixed a crash in the SID sample generation code (#604, #617).
- The border texture in full screen mode has been cleaned up (#605).
- „Save snapshot“ is no longer greyed out in the Machine menu (#608).
- Flashing an item from a D64 file does no longer crash the emulator (#609).
- Changed settings in the Peripherals configuration panel are now saved (#610).
- If the emulator is started with a PRG or D64 file, the document remains 'Untitled' (#611).
- The auto-warp condition has been reworked (#615).

Cet émulateur Apple // pour MacOS et Linux (l'archive contient les deux versions) a été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- Paste works from the host to the emulated machine. On the Mac, select text in another app, do Cmd-C, and then in KEGS select the Edit menu->Paste. On X11, select the text in another application, then in KEGS, click the middle mouse button to paste. Up to ~32KB can be pasted, but I recommend smaller amounts.
- On the Mac, the Config menu item will bring up the Configuration screen (same as pressing F4).
- Fix bug where Nox Archaist running on 5.25' floppies with fast_disk_emul on (which is the default) would cause KEGS to halt and not write modified data back to the disk image. Nox Archaist doesn't read the entire sector header, waits about 7 disk nibble times, then writes new sector data. This confused fast disk emulation which doesn't move the emulated disk position just by waiting. Now, when a write begins, KEGS will move the emulated disk position.
- Added logpc debugger command in the F7 debugger window. KEGS can keep track of all registers after each instruction for up to 2 million instructions. This is dumped out to the file pc_log_out in the directory where config.kegs was found. In the debugger window 'help logpc' gives basic help. 'logpc on' turns on logging, and 'logpc save' writes out the last 2 million instructions.

Une nouvelle beta pour cet émulateur Amiga a été publiée. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- PCI Virge emulation. Not much point but Virge emulation already existed, so.. Not all byteswapping modes emulated, only what Mediator driver needs to work correctly. G-REX + Virge also works but 24-bit modes have some byteswap problems.
- PCem PCI device config byte wide reads fixed (Voodoo/Virge + G-REX in CSPPC boot screen PCI list PCI device type is now shown correctly)
- Voodoo 3 now works with G-REX CGX4 drivers.
- G-REX didn't detect any PCI cards after FM801.
- PCI RTG board native/RTG mode autoswitching improved.
- Aranym JIT update missed move from FPU register to data register clamping (for example FPn -150.0 to Dn.B should become -128). Re-added.
- Fixed FPU instruction JIT blacklist support.
- Combitec HD 20 A/HD 40 A (not 100% sure it is exactly this model but very likely) emulation.
- Another blitter/copper timing bug fix. (b12)

- OMTI compatible HD controller. Usual OMTI IO offset 0x641. Base address is at $800000 + autoboot ROM at $f00000.
- Autoboot ROM supports autoboot under KS 1.2 (seems to use same hack that other KS 1.2 autobootable HD controller use)

Une résurrection pour cet émulateur Amstrad CPC qui n'avait pas été mis à jour depuis onze ans! Une version MacOS fait son apparition. Il s'agit donc d'une version majeure dont voici le contenu:
These are the features of version 2.0:
- Runs on MacOS, Android, iOS, Linux (x86_64 and ARM, in particular on Raspberry Pi) and Windows
- Graphics engine overhauled, introducing border, overscan, dynamic horizontal synchronisation (not perfect yet), scan doubling and some optional CRT blurring
- Completely new CRTC (CPC's graphics chip) emulation, quite accurate, and selectable between CRTC types 0, 1 and 2 (most demos work as on a real CPC)
- Realistic timing of CPU instructions and interrupts
- Sound emulation significantly improved, now able to play digitized sounds (such as speech and special effects)
- Different accelerated modes of operation ('Turbo', with and without CRTC synchronisation)
- Debugger with optional CRTC single-stepping alongside the CPC screen, including crosshairs indicating the current electron beam position
- Graphical menu (in addition to function keys)
- Virtual on-screen joystick on Android and iOS
- Keyboard configuration improved, enabling easier customization
- Many small improvements (e. g., correct handling of CPU register R, support for ZIP file archives without external 'unzip', V3 Snapshot files) and bug fixes (e. g., floppy disk controller now correctly reads strange sectors such as Speedlock)
So, F2 will toggle the Turbo mode. Holding Shift while pressing F2 toggles between three different CPU speeds. F9 simply halts the emulation. If you enter the Debugger with F10 you can leave it with the command 'r' (plus Return).
Unfortunately, I have not been able to check and test the French, Spanish and Danish keyboard layouts. I'm afraid that they might be broken. Please report me which keys are wrong.
