Basically, this is the super-improved version of
At the time of writing, they even have the same icon

I can see off tanks using this while the main keeps aggro as well. Also a gang of monks in any role could coordinate to keep the effect going for a fair bit of time, allowing a fairly long period of invincibility.

Mildly useful as a tank since it cancels after a melee attack. I would like to see a glyph that can improve and alter this ability for a brewmaster or even pvp standpoint

Comment by Horsekebab

This spell has so many uses!
In PvE:
  • Probably not as useful to soak AoE damage as one might think at first sight. It will most likely not redirect untargeted spells, such as Morchok's Stomp, Goriona's abilities and Deathwing's Elementium Bolt
  • Soaking abilities such as Hour of Twilight, Big Bang or Twilight Onslaught (which doesn't work, but that's because Blizzard specifically designed it that way)
  • Soak huge one hit abilities like Impale or Decimation Blade
  • I reckon one can't redirect spells you can't ground, such as Yor'sahj's Void Bolts
  • For tanks soaking BIG damage with Avert Harm

In PvP (in which it, in my opinion, is most useful):
  • The most obvious, a ridiculous group-wide defensive cooldown versus casters. Limited use versus melee/caster, and a silly spell to use versus melee cleaves as you could have spent that channeled time healing instead
  • Save your mates from dying in a smoke bomb
  • Ridiculous defensive cooldown versus casters
  • As a DPS: Prevent your healer from being CC'd by a selection of spells, Polymorph, Deep Freeze, Hammer of Justice, Freezing Trap, Cyclone (perhaps not wise, your healer can't heal you up then anyway) and several others. The former is probably especially useful as it will clear your DoTs aswell.
  • As a DPS who's not being targeted: One-time interrupt immunity for your healer versus mages, warlocks, shamans, balance druids and DKs, lasts 8 seconds!
  • Imagine this combined with a Hand of Protection! Although HoP might have other, better uses
  • I was going to add that one can soak a Mana Burn, but according to wowhead, that spell has been removed from the game. Also, this could probably be done by switching to Tiger Stance, just like druids can immune mana burns (as far as I know. They used to be able to at least)

There is, for me, some uncertainty around the mechanics of this spell, and there are a few questions around this that I, at least, want answers for!
I'm not sure whether it mitigates the damage of the first melee attack (the one which breaks the effect). If it does, this can also be used to save a tank from dying by Taunting, instantly followed up by a Meditate. It would require the tank to stay very focused if this was the case though, to prevent more melee attacks from the boss hitting the temporary off tank. I'm also not sure how overlapping taunts work, this might be an issue. I do know that if a mob is attacking player A, and both player B and player C taunts, but B taunts earlier, then B will have aggro afterwards, but this is perhaps different if the mob is already attacking player C
Is this effect broken by LoS? That would devalue its use in arena, at least. If yes, what about Smoke Bombs? They don't apply quite the same mechanics as LoS does.
ZenIf this was used to redirect a Deep Freeze, for instance, would the casting player then be stunned and/or stop channeling the effect? Same question for interrupts. I'm assuming the answers to these questions are yes, it would in all honesty be strange if they weren't, but one can always hope!
Edit: Avert Harm

According to this image from BlizzCon, the icon means 'village' or 'city' in Pandaren language.

This reminds me of Virgo Shaka's 'Khan' ability in Saint Seiya

Can this PLEASE be an emote?

I love this spell aginst Elemental shamans.

Comment by Tehcutlery

The damage reduction does NOT apply to damage redirected to you by .
Fitting that i should think to test that out to double check after i had a long illustration of the potential synergy (That now is nonexistent) between these two abilities typed up.

Comment by Toroq

For what it's worth, the melee attack that breaks the effect is reduced, so even if there's not much magic damage to soak, you can use it in anticipation of a large melee hit, such as Thrash on Sha of Fear.

Comment by Latias714

This DOES mitigate the first melee hit, but ends the effect. I have used it to successfully mitigate a rather hard hit on Will of Emperor (those things hit like trucks) with low HP, as an emergency, Overwhelming Assault on Blade Lord, allowing more stacks than normal, and Unseen Strike. It may break it, but if one hit is all you need, it's perfect.
It does NOT end on physical damage though per se, although the game is rather picky on what is a 'spell.' For example, it'll soak an entire Force and Verve, but will only soak five ticks of Rain of Blades, both physical.

Best used in conjunction with + Ring of Peace + Tiger's Lust + Zen Focus(4p pvp bonus when using Thunder Focus Tea)
Result: 70% speed to zoom around disarming/silencing people, 90% dmg reduction on you, and 5 spells deflected for the stacked raid, not possible to cancel it by melee hit, not possible to silence/interrupt the first 5 secs. And most likely wont be interrupted by Deathgrip / Knockbacks because of the glyph. Have fun! :)

Comment by Cloudburst

Have not extensively tested, but this may be able to negate Lilian Voss's Dark Blaze fire trail, effectively granting your party more time to DPS by not forcing them to run away from the fire.

Comment by Gyrwym

Does not reduce all damage taken by 90%. Fall damage still kills.

Comment by stovie85

As of 6.0 this spell has been reworked to no longer redirect spells toward the caster, and now only reduces spell damage of the caster, with melee attacks canceling the effect.

Comment by Rudy199

Can somebody tell which boss/dungeon boss encounters in Legion is this spell useful for?
